A healthy smile is something that you would want to wear anywhere you go. You may be having problems flashing a smile because of those crooked teeth, crowded smiles and poorly aligned bites. These are just some of the common dilemma among adolescents and adults that can now be treated using dental braces. Also known as orthodontic braces, these devise are primarily used to align a person’s teeth and correct their respective bites. Braces serve as the primary treatment for malocclusions, cross & open bites, over/under bites and poor tooth alignment. So how much does braces cost?

There are several factors that may affect the cost of the entire treatment like:
· Duration of treatment. The treatment usually averages around 12 to 24 months. It is highly personalized and depends on the need of a certain individual.
· Variation and complexity in treatment method. Some patients have serious teeth correction problems that cannot be treated by braces alone. Your dentist may require a cosmetic surgery after putting on braces to get that perfect smile that you’ve always wanted.
· Age (whether it for an adult or a child). Adult braces are more expensive that the ones for children. Orthodontists usually used a specialized type for adults to make the treatment shorter and more efficient. For adults, some structural changes cannot be corrected alone by braces since most of the bones have already stopped growing.
· Type of material used in the braces itself. Modern orthodontists have now a wide range of choices for you. Traditional braces are made up of metals like nickel and titanium. Clear braces are usually made from ceramic or plastics to make the appliances look inconspicuous. Gold plated stainless steel braces are used if you are allergic to nickel and may costs you more. The latest innovation available right now is what they call “A-braces” that are self-adjustable, removable, comfortable and can be completely controlled by the user.

Here are some common brace materials that are used and their estimated prices:

· Metal Braces. They are also known as your traditional braces. The costs would be around &5,000 to $7,500. If you decide to go for ceramic colored appliances, an additional $500 would be charged.
· Lingual Braces. This type is concealed behind your teeth. There will be an additional fee of $2,000 to $5,000 if you go with this option.
· Invisalign Braces. This type uses plastic trays to treat crooked teeth. They are custom-manufactured and would cost about $3,000 to $5,000 plus other extra items that come along with it.

But how much does braces cost on average? A study conducted shows that a comprehensive orthodontic treatment with braces cost around $5,000 for children and $5,500 for adults. However, if you opt for ceramic ones, there will be an additional $500 cost. The estimated braces price mentioned doesn’t include any extractions, X-rays, or any other appliance prior or after putting on those braces. It may cost you a lot, but rest assured your smile will all be worth it.
