When you become a freshman, you will be given a college card catalogue. There is a very long list of available classes. Looking at it can be daunting and would make you feel dizzy. You need to understand the structure of college classes so you will have an easier transition from a formulaic high school schedule to a versatile college schedule. Regardless of any information you have, you will still experience a student life with various types of college classes within your academic career. - General Education Classes
Most universities and colleges require students 32-40 credit hours which is usually 10-1 5 classes. There will be a course work that will basically teach students basic science, economics, math, cultural studies, history, foreign language and writing. This will help students learn holistically making them well-rounded individuals.
Students from different courses even if they major in molecular biology or major in dancing need to take general education classes. Most of these general education classes are usually taken in bulk during their first two years of college.
- Orientation classes
Orientation classes is a pass-fail course usually give as a one-credit. This is the easiest class you will be taking. You will have to join in large-sized classes. This will help students get accustomed with the university or their chosen major. Example of this class would be about the school of international service seminar.
- Major-Specific Course work classes
This course work classes would focus more on a particular subject. This will help students decide on a specific career path that would be based upon a facet of the study.
Say for example you are an economics major, you can choose a facet that will lead you to become an academic researcher of economics. Perhaps, you can even be a forecaster for a large business empire.
You will need to complete at least eight major-specific 300-400 level classes. You will be having in-depth classes analyzing the chosen major through a series of lenses.
So how much does college cost a year? For community colleges, you will most likely have to shell out around $4,552.00. In-state public universities offer tuition likely a price of $4,341.15. On the other hand, private universities offer tuition per year at around $8,843.50. This tuition however does not include room and board expenses. Most likely, you will also have to spend on some college books. You will also have to note there are various miscellaneous expenses.
