How Much Does a Passport Cost?
Passport is an official document given out by the government. This authenticates the owner’s citizenship, right to protection while he or she is in another country, the right to reenter his or her country of origin and most especially this document validates the identity of the bearer.
How much does a passport cost?
It actually depends on what type of passport you are applying for. The age of the applicant also determines the amount that he or she ahs to pay. Aside from that there are certain optional service charges on top of the passport prices depending on the additional service that you want.
For application form DS-11, meaning you are applying for your own passport, a passport book for those 16 years old and above the application fee is $75 with an execution fee of $25 so it’s a total of $100 dollars. For those under 16 it’s $60 for application and the same amount for the execution fee, a total of $85 dollars. If you’re applying for a passport card it’s $20 application fee and $25 execution fee for those 16 and older while those under 16 years of age have to pay $10 as application fee plus $25 execution fee. Application fees are to be made payable to the “Department of State”, while the execution fee has to be paid separately to the facility where you’re applying.
For those who would want to apply by mail the execution fee’s waived so those who are applying for a passport book aged 16 and above the application fee is $75 and for the passport card it is $20. For applicants under age 16 they are not able to take advantage of this kind of service.
For expedite service, the applicant has to pay $60 on top of the application and execution fee if you’re applying in person, so for those 16 and above that would be a total of $160. While those who are aged 15 and below have to pay $145. For mail service applicants who requested for an expedite service the total fee is $135. If you would want to get an overnight delivery service, you can send your passport application to the “Department of State” and have your newly issued passport from the “Department of State” also through an overnight delivery service provider, however you should include an amount of $14.85 with each application. Their service fees may vary, but what is important is that you have to check if they can provide you with at least a delivery confirmation. They must also be capable of delivery to a P.O. Box. Fees can be paid in cash, check, money orders, bank drafts, credit cards or by using a debit card or check card.
When you’re applying for a U.S. Passport outside of the United States, are the same. Just go to the nearest US Embassy or Consulate and they can provide you with all the information. They also accept payments in foreign currency equivalent to the dollar amount.
