How Much Does a Breast Reduction Cost?
Reduction mammoplasty, also known as breast reduction, is a surgical procedure wherein the size of the breasts is reduced by eliminating or excising the skin, glandular tissue, or the fat in the breast area. This procedure is usually done on women who have large breasts. Because of the breasts’ weight, the patient is experiencing breathing and circulation problems as well as chronic pain of the shoulders, back, neck, and head. To eliminate or lessen these problems, a breast reduction surgery is performed. The surgeon’s fee, facility fee, and the anesthesia fee are the factors which determine how much does a breast reduction cost.
The anesthesia fee which is one factor which determines how much does a breast reduction cost, usually ranges from $1,000 to $1,500. $500 to $2000 is the usual cost for the facility fee or the operating room facilities. The cost for private clinics, the cost of the nursing care offered in the said clinic, and the cost of the surgical items used is usually more expensive when compared to others. These costs may also differ depending upon the area of the clinical facility. Aside from the clinical facility, the extent of the procedure which needs to be done in order to achieve the desired result as well as the patient’s need will also determine how much a breast reduction operation will cost. The fee of the plastic surgeon will usually be higher especially when the surgeon is famous, experienced, and known for his level of expertise in the field of reduction mammoplasty. So usually, the more experienced the surgeon is, the higher will be the cost of the procedure. There are also some instances when the reduction of large breasts will require the surgeon to perform additional work in order to remove some tissues and reshape the nipple area. When the patient’s condition requires extra work or operations which must be performed by the surgeon so that the patient may be able to reap better results from the breast reduction operation, the cost may even be more expensive.
In addition to the said fees which determine how much does a breast reduction cost, there are also supplementary costs which a patient must be aware of. Even though, this type of plastic surgery operation may be covered by insurance, there are still other costs which may not be included in the said insurance. After the operation, surgeons will usually prescribe pain medication for the patients. This prescribed pain medication may not be covered by the insurance. The patient will also need to purchase post surgical support bras which may cost $100 each. Additional $25 may be needed in order for the patient to purchase a hot/cold breast compress. Other costs may include the cost of an additional surgery which may be performed in case there are complications or because the patient is not happy with the results of the breast lift operation. The costs for these additional operations may even be higher than the cost of the initial breast lift operation.
