Created by Beach Body, P90x is a weight loss system consisting of 12 exercise routines in a DVD series, a three-phased meal & nutrition plan, supplemental options, a detailed fitness guide and an online customer support center. The name “P90x” got its origins from P as in power, 90 days (for the duration of the program) and X for extreme. The program is coached by Tony Horton and is now one of the most popular do it yourself workout available in DVD media. According to P90x’s developers, muscle confusion is the key to this weight loss program. Numerous workout routines and exercises are incorporated on a daily basis. This exercise variety is highly encouraged to keep a person’s muscle groups doing different things all at the same session. This technique will prevent the so called ‘plateau effect’.  The muscle groups won’t get used to the normal routines and continue to develop as time passes. P90x is now being endorsed by medical professionals, body builders, personal trainers and other fitness experts worldwide. The workouts including in the program are named after the different muscle groups that it exercises namely Yoga X, chest & back, shoulder & arms, back & biceps, Ab Ripper X, Kenpo X, X stretch, core synergetics, chest, shoulders & triceps, legs & back and plyometrics or jump training. All the exercise sets include a five minute stretching and another 5 minute cooling down segments. You also get the occasional 30 –second water breaks.

The exercises that the program employs may be a little bit strenuous for some. The overall mood of the video starts to be light in the beginning but then gradually proceeds to the more strenuous routines. It is not recommended for obese individuals and those with current bone and muscle injuries.

So how much does P90x cost? On average the entire program would cost you around $120, if you purchase from Beach Body’s official website. There are few second hand DVDs sold in Ebay for $50 to $100 but worksheets and fitness calendars are not included. The nice thing about P90x is that they feature a 90-day refund for unsatisfied subscribers. So it is definitely something worth signing up. You also need equipments that you can use for the daily routine such as a pull up bar, push up stands, dumb bells, resistance bands and yoga mats. If you think you are not a able to come up with the $120 onetime fee cost, Beach Body offers a monthly payment program for only $39.95. This price is actually more acceptable for many consumers.
